From July 16th to 17th, 2026, the staff of The Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU) gathered at the Garuga Resort Beach Hotel for their annual Mid-Year Retreat. The two-day event provided a dedicated space for the team to evaluate the progress of their annual interventions six months in, refine internal policies, and re-strategize for sustainable impact across the remainder of the year.
The retreat came at an important point in the year: six months into the implementation of CCFU’s annual programme. Its central purpose was to collectively assess progress, identify challenges and opportunities, strengthen the organisation’s financial sustainability, and enhance internal systems and human resource management.
The retreat created space for honest reflection on the implementation and performance of CCFU’s annual interventions. Staff reviewed progress made during the first half of the year and considered what needed to be strengthened to ensure that the organisation’s objectives are achieved by the end of the year.
Staff evaluated mid-year progress, reviewed internal policies (including anti-fraud, risk management, and leave policies), and explored regulatory updates affecting civil society organizations. In response to an evolving landscape for civil society, discussions emphasized prudent resource management, strategic planning, and innovative fundraising strategies.
The communications team introduced forward-looking ideas to expand CCFU’s reach, such as virtual reality cultural experiences, digital language archives, and e-newsletters to safeguard and promote Uganda’s heritage.

The retreat placed a strong emphasis on the human side of the organization. Through team-building activities, staff from different departments reconnected, built trust, and deepened cross-functional relationships. The event highlighted that organizational success relies not just on systems, but on work-life balance, staff wellbeing, and mutual support. As the retreat came to an end, the team established clear priorities for the second half of the year including;
Collective Responsibility, Every role, from programmes and finance to administration and logistics, is vital to achieving CCFU’s goals. Actionable Reflection, Insights gains must directly inform follow-up actions, particularly in policy and financial planning.
Sustainable Growth, Long-term success requires careful resource management, continuous learning, and digital innovation. Commitment to Mission, At its core, CCFU remains dedicated to safeguarding Uganda’s cultural heritage and using culture as a driver for development.
The team returned to work with renewed purpose, practical commitments, and a shared dedication to turning reflection into impactful action across Uganda.
