The Cross-Cultural Foundation of Uganda (CCFU) is organising its 11th Annual Youth Cultural Heritage Awarding Ceremony that will take place on 1st December 2022, at the Uganda National Museum, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm. This event is organised to recognise and appreciate 13 young winners of the 2022 Youth cultural heritage competition, celebrate 11 years of the Heritage Education Programme in Uganda and launch the 2023 Heritage Calendar.
Since 2011, CCFU has organised Annual national youth cultural heritage competitions that encourage youth across the country to think positively about different aspects of their culture. This year, the theme of the competition was “Culture and Leadership”. Young people were tasked to draw or paint cultural objects or symbols, rituals or ceremonies that showcase leadership and explain the significance of the drawing or painting to their communities. CCFU received 482 entries from across the country and a jury of 5 heritage experts assessed them to identify the best 13 entries. These entries have been used to design and produce the 2023 Heritage calendar which will be launched on the same day.
The competition is part of the activities of CCFU’s Heritage Education Programme, which aims at enhancing young people’s appreciation of their cultural heritage. This programme involves training teachers to provide support, establish heritage clubs and provide information on culture to young people. CCFU works with over 170 heritage clubs in secondary and primary schools, in partnership with 21 Community Museums across the country.
CCFU is an NGO established with a mission to promote an appreciation of culture as vital for human development that responds to our diverse identities.
