CCFU receives a Green Heart Hero Award

The Foundation is extremely proud and honoured to receive the Climate Coalition’s Green Heart Hero Award under the category of ‘inspiring international project’ for our ‘melting snow and rivers in flood’ project which aims at mitigating the impact of climate change on heritage sites in the Rwenzori and West Nile regions.

The Foundation was represented by the International National Trusts Organisation (INTO) General Secretary, Catherine Leonard at the awarding event which took place in the United Kingdom.

” I am delighted to accept the Green Heart Hero award on behalf of the amazing CCFU this evening. Their project, supported by British Council’s Cultural Protection Fund, has transformed how we all think about climate adaptation.” Catherine noted.

Melting Snow and Rivers in Flood explores a community-led response to a situation where climate change risks the erasing of belief systems, cultural rites, and sacred sites alike.

Responding to rapid glacial melt and extreme floods in the Rwenzori and West Nile region of Uganda, this project focuses on adopting an integrated approach to mitigating the impact that climate change is having on local heritage.  As climate shifts have a devastating impact worldwide, treasured local heritage sites are increasingly at risk of disappearing.  Even less in focus, is the unique impact a warming climate is having on the preservation of intangible cultural heritage.

The Green Heart Hero Awards organised by the Climate Coalition are a chance to shine a spotlight on extraordinary actions that individuals, communities and organisations are taking to create a cleaner, greener world, for us and future generations.
