CCFU attends the International Conference for National Trusts in Jordan

The conference which was organised by the International National Trusts Organisations (INTO) took place in Amman Jordan from 2nd to 5th December 2024. It was attended by INTO’s members from across the world.

The conference hosted by Petra National Trust was held under the theme: Facing Change, which aimed at sharing experiences especially about culture-based climate action and empowering communities with scientific knowledge and technical training to achieve appropriate place and people-based conservation plans.

Participants had the opportunity to engage in various sessions, workshops, and field visits to several cultural heritage sites across Jordan, including As-Salt city and Petra Archaeological Park.

Simon Musasizi, our Heritage Trust Programme Manager, represented us and was one of the panelists during the session on “Lessons from Withstanding Change: Climate Change Communications and Education” where he shared experiences from our restoration works at the Semei Kakungulu Museum in Mbale.

At the conference, powerful testimonies from colleagues working amid conflict, climate change and rampant development were shared. Despite these challenges, there was hope for the future, especially through youth engagement, collaboration with local communities and global solidarity.

The conference highlighted the power of togetherness and hope. Delegates shared moving stories of resilience and the vital role of culture amidst violence and displacement. As historian Dan Snow noted, our efforts may not single-handedly save the world, but they make the world worth saving.

CCFU is in the process of establishing a heritage trust and the conference was important for learning.
