In light of the alarming demolition of historical buildings and encroachment on heritage in pursuit of “city status”, many cities have lost a crucial part of their heritage, Mbarara City, one of Uganda’s cities, is no exception.
This product is a result of CCFU’s partnership with with the Uganda German Cultural Society. The project successfully mapped conducted research, and captured photographic documentation of these structures. To highlight the threat to these structures, a day before CCFU set out to document these structures, two historical buildings were destroyed!
A coffee table book titled ‘Inspiration from the Past: Historical Buildings and Sites in Mbarara City’ was produced and is set to be launched in 2025. This is CCFU’s third coffee table book produced in collaboration with other stakeholders, following ‘Beyond the Reeds and Bricks: Historical Sites and Buildings in Kampala, Jinja, and Entebbe’ in 2019 and ‘Our Railways, Our History: From Mombasa to Pakwach’ in 2021. These books are available for reading and for purchase from CCFU offices and leading bookshops in Kampala, Uganda.
